Our two September walks (8 and 11 miles) started from Helmsley through gentle rolling green landscape, both taking in the picturesque ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, a monastery that was founded by Cistercian monks and became one of the wealthiest of their kind in England until 1538 when it was disposed of during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
A nice spot for both groups to take a break was also Rievaulx Bridge over the River Rye. One of our members even braved the waters to have a little refreshing splash :-).
